2021 is a significant year for Komoco Motors as we offer a full line-up of different SUVs to meet our customers' varied needs and reach out to new customers who have known us for only a few models. Our SUV line-up can be compared to pieces on a chessboard, from the smaller Venue for small families to the electrified SUV of KONA Hybrid and KONA Electric to our Hyundai’s largest and biggest SUV, our flagship Palisade. And more recently, we complete our SUV range with the latest Tucson and Santa Fe Hybrid. We share stories of customers who joined our SUV family.
Repeat Hyundai owner Mr Vincent Goh first drove the Hyundai Excel and Elantra for about 6 years in the early 90’s. He shared, “those were the days when Hyundai was known for affordability.” But that did not deter him when he was looking to change a new car; he witnessed how Hyundai has progressed by leaps and bounds in terms of build-quality, design and specifications of the car. Naturally when the new KONA Electric was first introduced in 2019, he considered the electric SUV and eventually went on to get the 2019 Kona Electric that he drove for 14 months. And recently, he updated to the latest 2021 KONA Electric.
Have you always wanted an EV? What convinced you to get one? I became very interested in battery electric cars (BEV) after I moved to my condo that has car charging lots already installed by the developer. I started to research extensively, and, in the end, it was not difficult to select the 64 kWh Kona electric from my short list. It has an unbeatable range to price ratio.
My decision was not based on just the initial purchase price, but I had considered the full life cycle ownership cost versus an equivalent internal combustion engine car, factoring the “fuel” cost, maintenance and taxes. The Kona electric free 10-years servicing and excellent traction battery warranty removed any further hesitation that I had. I also wanted to do my small part for the environment; a BEV emits less greenhouse gas than a Hybrid.
What are your favourite features of the KONA Electric?
I will give you my four favourite features.

1.I love how the car could unleash the full power of the 200 BHP motor in an instant, yet keeping the occupants in hush comfort in city driving conditions.

2.This car is chock-full with safety features.

3.My family members could wait comfortably inside the car with the air-conditioner on without any fear of being exposed to harmful tail-pipe gasses because there is no tail-pipe!

4.Incredible range of about 480kms when fully charged.
What do you remember most about your KONA Electric when you first took the EV home?
I remember not needing to visit the service station to top up with costly fuel. As a result, it felt so liberating to travel guilt free to distant locations for simple pleasures such as meals or a walk in the park.
Would you consider another Hyundai EV in the future?
Most certainly. I am looking forward to future mid-sized models.
What would you say to someone considering a KONA Electric?
Beware; you may never want to own another internal combustion engine car again...
