“I admit to being somewhat obsessed over the efficiency of cars so naturally, I became very interested in green vehicles. The range of EVs these days have increased and they are very efficient. I have managed to clock 10km/kWh in my KONA Electric based on city driving, without ferrying any passengers and with the air-conditioning switched off. This works out to almost 600km on a full battery with some residual charge left. With my family in the car and with the air-conditioning turned on, the figure averages around 12-13kWh/100km, which still achieves a very good range of about 500 km on a full charge.
I charge my KONA Electric about once a week. My average weekly mileage is about 350-400 km. After three days, the battery is usually down to about 70 per cent, so I can easily drive the entire week without charging, unless I make a trip to Malaysia.
I also love the instantaneous acceleration of EVs. Even though the KONA Electric is not considered a performance car and neither do I regard myself as a speed demon, I am usually the first one to get ahead when the traffic light turns green.
I think any EV with at least a 200 km driving range is realistic for Singapore. There is no inconvenience at all.”
Mr Bernard Chew bought the KONA Electric in 2019. KONA Electric is the first fully-electric Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) available in Singapore.
